Spandex and lycra are both names for for elastane fibres. It is a polyurethane-polyurea copolymer. Invented in 1959 by DuPont "Spandex" is a generic name - its an anagram of the word expands.- Spandex" This is the most common term for elastane in America The most famous brand name associated with elastane is Lycra, a trademark of Invista (formerly part of DuPont). Elastane fabrics are characterized by high stretch and recovery. used in conjunction with Nylon, polyester , cottons etc
